Today I want to explore different steps in the cycle. Because every fold radiates waves of modulation, their interactions naturally produce interference patterns. When these waves align, you get constructive interference, which is just coherence. This is how complex systems and structures emerge. When they clash, you get destructive interference, which dissipates order but, just as importantly, opens up space for new configurations. This means emergence isn’t some miracle added to matter. It’s simply the topological consequence of these overlapping curvatures. Life, consciousness, and even society are just enduring interference patterns, sort of metastable ripples in a sea of modulation.
So where does the ‘self’ come from? I reckon some folds simply bend sharply enough to be able to sense their own curvature. This reflexive folding is what generates the phenomena we call subjectivity and awareness. The field doesn’t create a separate mind; it simply turns inward, making its own shape perceptible from within. Thinking, then, is just matter that can feel its own modulation. And language is just curvature communicating with other curvature through resonance.
Of course, no fold lasts forever. Every fold, no matter how stable, eventually disperses as its gradients flatten out. But this dissolution isn’t a negation; it’s a redistribution. The energy from one pattern just goes on to seed another. What we might see as entropy is actually the field’s creativity. Decay and generation are a single gesture, just viewed from opposite temporal slopes. This means death, forgetting, or collapse aren’t the opposites of life, memory, or order. They are simply their unfolding, the field relaxing, only to refold somewhere else.
So the whole dynamic is like a topological sequence: It starts with Difference, an uneven potential in the field. This leads to Curvature, as the field bends around that difference. This is followed by Stabilisation, where the curvature finds a local equilibrium, which is what we perceive as ‘being’. Then comes Resonance, where different folds align and communicate, creating relation and knowledge. This, in turn, allows for Reflexivity, where the field senses its own curvature, and subjectivity arises. Finally, there is Dissolution, where the patterns relax and redistribute their energy, which is just renewal. This cycle is perpetual. Every moment of ‘being’ is just a slowed-down ripple of ‘becoming’, and every ‘becoming’ is just a re-folding of ‘being’.
